While Bea and Gregg pull on Mae, Angus pulls the lever to the mine elevator which causes it to plummet back down the mine. But Eide appears with a vengeance and tries to drag Mae back down into the mine. The Cult members then wield rifles and demand that Gregg drop his weapon, Gregg is forced to comply and the Cult end up saying that they did Casey a favor, as he began taking up work with his cousin who had died in an illegal substance lab they had ran in their trailer.Įventually, Mae and the crew are allowed to leave unharmed. It is soon revealed that Casey was one of the unfortunates sacrificed, which infuriates Gregg who threatens to shoot whoever did it with his crossbow. They say that the Black Goat resides within the hole and that the goat doesn't speak, but instead sings, and that Mae was one of the few to hear it. The cult member silences them and proceeds to explain the Cult's existence and their purpose to help keep Possom Springs alive. Eide however demands that the group be killed, having been furious for being shot in the arm. They are stopped by the Cult members who apologize for harming Mae, saying that it wasn't their intention. Mae, now accompanied with Bea, Gregg and Angus decide to follow Eide into the mine and come across the hole at the end of everything. The group run away from the cultists but are pursued, Mae is almost shot in the arm and tumbles down the cliff which causes her head trauma.Īfter Mae returns to the mine, she encounters Eide who is then shot by Gregg with his crossbow. Mae accidentally makes a noise and alerts the Cult to their presence. They then pull him from out of a rock, which results in Lurv getting his leg broken. Lurv pleas for forgiveness or leniency but is promptly denied and the other cult members state that his family will be looked after. He was being punished for leaving the disembodied arm by the Clik-Clak Diner, and thus risking the group's discovery. The Cult properly appear where Mae, Bea, Gregg and Angus stumble across the entrance to the mine and witness the brutal punishment of Lurv. Mae follows the hooded figure and investigates, but eventually loses track of them and is taken home by her aunt. The Cult were first introduced when Eide was seen by Mae Borowski to have kidnapped a HarFest celebrator. At least three other people are offered to the Black Goat over the course of the game, but the Cult is known to have sacrificed at least 39 people overall. The Cult worked in secret, snatching away folks that they believed wouldn't be missed- drunkards, drifters and delinquents- to be sacrificed to the Black Goat. According to some of the Cultists, Ed Skudder had a power they referred to as "The Glimmer", a sort of natural charisma granted to him by the Black Goat which he used to draw people to his side. Over the next few years, Ed Skudder slowly built up his Cult, exploiting the desperation of the ex-miners and other townsfolk, unsure of the town's future and losing faith in the local Church. Ed Skudder took this offer and left the mines. The entity gave Ed a dark offering: it would bring life and prosperity back to Possum Springs, but in return, Ed had to sacrifice people to the pit for the Black Goat to consume. Through this, Ed learned that the Black Goat resided at the bottom of the pit, which would later be known as "The Hole At the End of Everything". Ed tried calling out for Jim, but instead was answered by singing- the Song of the Black Goat. During their search, Ed and Jim discovered a seemingly bottomless pit, in which Jim stumbled into and "never hit bottom". The Cult was apparently formed by a miner called Ed Skudder, who, along with his co-worker Jim Dorney, were both sent to search the mine for leftover minerals before its closure.
